Big end, crank failure, no doubt. We have 10 other cars here doing the same - maybe we can form an orchestra?.........

Call me and l'll talk you through the options.

sounds like mine did coming back from the Nurburgring a month ago. It didnt actually let go all together, despite having to drive it a mile up the hard shoulder to get recovered, then through the ferry port and on/off the ferry.

Sounded like a brick in a washing machine by the time I got off the ferry. I've ended up getting a replacement engine for mine (MY00 Version 2) for £500 as I couldnt afford a rebuild, just got to get it fitted in the next few weeks.

You've got a few options, depending on budget, either rebuild or replace. Just make sure you get the right engine if you have an MY99/00 as they are different to the earlier cars.

Can be down to a number of things, wrong oil, detonation, mileage etc.

It was my main concern when I bought mine and despite finding one with FSH and the best I could get for the money mine still started knocking after a month. Only way to provent it is to rebuild with stronger internals, maybe fit an oil cooler and get and if any mods are done make sure its mapped professionally.

Awful.... awful noise. Worse than death itself (although, in its way, it is dead of course).

It brings me out in cold sweat (as I recall my various other cars that have suffered the dreaded bottom end demise...)

Sorry to hear this sound again, the recent dimise of my Fozzy brings it all back again.
Being nosey what's the milage?
I would aggree that there are plenty of used engines about for less than £500.
My old ladys sport is on a 99 plate, now done 152k.
