Default PinkBox Excedy fitted, no judder but odd noise

Hi All,

as the title reads got a an Excedy Pink Box clutch kit fitted which comeswith an anti-judder plate. Also a lightened and balanced flywheel while I wasit.

No judder and hadn’t thought about judder seeing as the last time I heardabout it was when a mate had a brass plate based paddle clutch fitted to hisSeriesII RS Turbo a decade ago, total nightmare to drive. Anyways......

I get an odd sound when the clutch isn’t under load, engine breaking orcoasting in 2nd or 3rd gear gives of weird tight vibrating sound is the best Ican do to describe it.

Is something broke?

As the downpipe probably had to be dropped, it's worth checking the support bracket has been tightened?

53WRX: Good effort mate, from my crappy laptop speakers that dosent match the sound I'm hearing. But you have given me an idea, I have 60 mile trip tomorrow so I'll try and record it and bang it on you tube, see if you think it matches.

JohnD: Yeah the down pipe was swapped out for an uprated one the garage had lying around. I'm thinking if it was the up pipe it would be more of a rattle?

I'm sure one of the kids toys makes a simialr sound, it's as if something is spinning to fast and gets out of shape. Thing is the car sounds like then when slowing and not when you give it some beans.

I'll try and record it tomorrow, also I'll dig through the kids toys lol

Cheers

I'd be interested too as i had a exedy pink anti judder kit fitted a few months ago that sounds like it's falling to bits when lifting off the throttle.

Some lightweight flywheels like to ring their **** off and the Pink isn't always quiet. Reduced harmonic dampening and uprated parts = in some combos much increased transmission noise on overrun

That's exactly the same as mine, which is a relief as I thought my gearbox was going to fail!

I like that sound guy I bought my car off thought the box was goosed after he fitted a LWFW so put a six speed in good for me, not so good for him especially as the spare box came with the car and there's nothing wrong with it

Had exactly the same problem with my new Exedy clutch, terrible gearbox / diff noise on lift off... had to change the clutch to solve the issue...
