Leave It Running?
After owning Two scoobies now i have always left the engine running after driving the car for a little while (I read a sticker once) on my old classic that said ''after hard driving leave engine running for 60 seconds''.
I know on some subarus people have turbo timers fitted.
So question is why do you have to leave them running?
How long for?
Do you have to do it on very short trips?

Just stay off boost for the last few minutes of a drive, no need to let cool down then. Stationary cooling will not cool as well as staying off boost and allowing air to cool the engine.

I read somewhere that after an enthusiastic drive you should drive as you do when bringing the engine to temperature, reason being the build up in pressure within the turbo. When I come off a motorway for the services I leave mine idling for a min as I have heard all kinds of stories about turbos popping at petrol stations! May be a myth but not prepared to find out the hard way.

I removed my timer on last Scooby after having car at Alan jefferies as he pointed out who drives flat out up there street to their front door??? No-one so waste of time having timer.only takes 30 seconds of normal driving for turbo to settle down and plus Alan had a car accelerator stick wide open on the rollers and couldn't stop engine as timer kicked in.

The reason is, when you turn the engine off there is no fresh oil being pumped into the turbo bearings and the turbo will be very hot if you have been thrashing the car, also the turbo spins very fast and could still be spinning when you take the oil supply away by switching off so its always best to let the engine idle for a few mins b4 switching off

As above. Dont see the point in timers. In a area of a crash you have similer fear as alan had on rollers but in crash situation be ignition on and fuel pump etc. Risk of fire
