when i floor the car when it hits 3000 it cuts out and then pics up again
quite badly and then the revs keep doing this up to 6000 but not as bad as it is at 3000 its almost as bad as hitting a rev limiter there is no ovious mods on the car that i can see .

You could start by cleaning out the boost control solenoid, there are plenty of pages on how to do this if you type it in the search bar at the top of the page. Then it might be worth you checking all you hose, making sure that there are no crack/splits in any of them.In fact if you have not had the car long ,it might be worth checking plugs, air filter ,fuel filter, etc 1st to start off with then post up your findings .Also do you have the same issues when you drive the car with the power switch on the side of the gear lever switched on.

Hi i have a 1995 wrx auto and i can guarantee you its not the gearbox dropping in and out of gear, when the gearbox is low on oil or lets go it usually rips the high clutch to pieces and leaves you with no drive at all, its all or nothing thats it! Anyway it sounds to me that you may be getting overboost, this happens easily on an auto especially if it has a decat. Or failing that it can also be the maf, if the maf fails it will cut like hell over 3000rpm and the boost will be very unstable (constantly up and down). Do you have a boost gauge fitted?
