Default Cambelt Change DIY Help!

Hi

I decided to change the cambelt on my blob today as it's long overdue. I've removed the crank pulley and timing cover but i have a query about the timing marks. The marks on the camshaft pullies on the driver's side seem to be out; do i try and align the marks as they should be with the new belt or aim to match them as they are now?

Driver's side:

Passenger side:

Thanks
Harry

line them up, then fit and tension the belt and re-check. Not unusual to see belts out by upto half a tooth, some manufacturers use free wheeling pulleys to counteract this.

Good work!! - How hard wast it to do or is there a 'How To'?

Mines needing done at end of the month and the £200 labour charge is a bit of a killer

I've had 2 quotes both from reputable Subaru specialists and both roughly same price of £400 for Cambelt change inc vat and labour. £200 parts inc all pulleys/tensioners and £200 for 4 hours labour

Cheers buddy, way beyond my capabilities though. I struggled changing the alternator belt couple of weeks ago so no way could I tackle this.

I think they have to take into account the risk factor, that way when/if things go wrong they can fix it/ warranty the repair. Thats why its expensive, DIY fit the belt and you have no warranty. Just stating the obvious. Im going to fit mine in the next week or so
