hawkeye wrx, upgrade or replace?
I've had the car for a few years now, it's low milage and trouble free but im wanting a bit more go..
my options are to spend around £1k on parts or put the money towards a higher milage/older sti.
What would you suggest?

I had an 03 wrx and after thinking it through I sold it and bought a jdm sti my05. Was the best move I made as the car at STD was better than I could have got my wrx and just a simple exhaust panel filter and remap and I was happy. Just couldn't warrant spending the money on my wrx. But each to their own and it really depends what you want from the car. I also found insurance cheaper on my sti than declaring sti performance levels on a wrx. But it's a tough call as you will get different advice from others. Just think it through before you decide.

Keep it as you'll kick yourself if you end up buying a lemon......remove 2nd cat, resonator section and put H&S clean through bits on with their back box and get it mapped by JGM with a new panel filter..mines now 286bhp and 350nm torque.....different car and lots of fun

keep it any put ure own stamp on it,yes the sti has a better base ,ie stronger internals brembos etc but these can be easily sold on if or when u change ure car in yrs to come,
better to get used to the power with the modded wrx before jumping into the sti,
ive modded my wrx and wouldnt dream of changing it as u cant get my model in sti form
but i know it faster than a lot of sti's on the road.

I have just had my hawkeye wrx remapped to 330bhp and boy its good fun
I could have had 350 but the 2.5 has a tendencey to melt (apparently) so i went with the safer option of slightly less power
Anyway it has cost me a small fortune to do..
Vf48 upgrade
Sti Intercooler
decat downpipe
full exhaust system
fuel pump
Ecutek remap
Brembo's to help it stop
But the car is now fantastic fun
Its worth it (Honest)

I know of three blown gearboxes... all WRX hawkeyes.
The sensible option is to buy an STI.
But are any of us sensible when it comes to our cars?
And as for that classic line, " My modded WRX is quicker than an STI,,,"
You can't find a std. STI, they are almost always tweaked for even more power...
Enjoy !

P.S. £4K = turbo, FMIC, headers, injectors & a re-map = 400+ bhp.

I agree However if you have looked after your car and its in top condtion then the idea of swaping it with a unkown is a no no for me.
The sky is the limit anything is possible its all down to risk and cash flow

I know a lad who's just let his WRX go for around £10K. Having spent who knows how much on a full 370 bhp upgrade, STI Brembos, STI gearbox, diff and driveshafts, and a clutch to cope, suspension mods as well...
Sadly just money gone now.

P.S. No, I don't know what a std Hawkeye STI is worth in comparisson.
