My old Impreza had a homemade immobilizer inside the handbrake console. Had to remove backing plate, slide hand up the tunnel and feel for the switch. Basically, it was a switch to the fuel pump...could be that

An Al Qaeda-ist owned the car before - it's his "blow everything to Kingdom Come" switch.

When the clutch is pressed does it touch it? Looks like a clutch switch to me!

^^ Think it must touch it , as you have to hold the clutch down when starting the engine, it must push that button in when starting the engine.

You would fit a switch there if you have Flat Foot Shifting too There should be one on the brake pedal too?

I think Mifo is right, On jdm scoobs you have to push the clutch down to start the car, so its probably the switch that allows you to turn the engine over to start it.
