double check the code mate 43 isnt on the fault code list...
42 is idle switch
44 is wastegate control solenoid valve
think u will find the first flash is just to let u know its starting, your fault code is maybe 33 which is vehicle speed sensor 2
hope this helps

The MY93-96's can be remapped by ESL Live, thus keeping all the OEM ECU sensors/features/diagnostics, etc.
The MY97/98 need Apexi or Simtek (or other aftermarket ECU).
Stompers, I take it, by your question, that you have a pre-Sep 96 "phase 1" MY96 (small slanty iC and individual coilpacks-on-plugs)? If so, then it is mappable as mentioned above, so you still could have OEM diagnostics - whether it's an untouched std ECU or mapped by ESL. If you have a std OEM ECU case, you'll have to take the lid off to double-check what's actually inside.
All that said though, if you were defo getting the long and short flashes after doing the code read procedure, I can't see it being an aftermarket ECU that you have!
I'd recheck for the codes again - you may have misread it as 43 (e.g. might have been 42 or 44 or something...)

Wrong - see above ^^^.
It can't be remapped as is - but the addition of an ESL Live daughterbard does make it remappable, and still behaves as OEM i.e. with all the Subaru sensors/diagnostics untouched...
It's the specific "phase 1.5" MY97/98 3-plug ECUs which, so far, you can't remap by ESL Live, as it's not yet available (although they've been working on it since, seemingly, time itself began!... )

Ha. I took it as read that skinneyman's statement of code 43 is not in the list... But see here:-
Subaru Specific Trouble Code Definitions
...It's very much on the list - it's the accelerator pedal switch!

If you have a chipped ECU code 43 can be ignored. Its due to the map. I started a thread about it somewhere, as i had a code 43, due to my PP chip. Just ignore it.

i dont think this list is all included by the onboard system through ecl, dont quote me on it but as far as i was aware ther was only a small list of codes that will show on it, is this list maybe relating to a select monitor for as many codes??
