2004 JDM STi - Ticking - Tapping Noise From Engine Help Needed?
Hi Peeps,
I have a ticking noise coming from my enigne, almost sounds like a tappet, not sure if its shims or hydruallis self adjustings?.
It does not tick/tap on idle, only when engine speed is increased, Its at its most loud at about 3000rpm ish.
I thought it was a exhaust manifold gasket or intake manifold gasket blow maybe at first. It runs perfect. Rollered it Saturday whenI picked it up and it run 305 BHP at the crank, and the chap who had it before me run it on 95!!!... I had put about 150 miles of V-Power Miles on before the Dyno!
Any help would be great.

Hopefully not the bottom end then - you should have selective buckets/shims on a 04 STi, so no shim to flick out of the bucket and they dont normally go noisy all of a sudden.
Double check the headers/up-pipe joints for exhaust gas leak and make sure the spark plugs are tight as this will give you a very distinctive ticking noise.

It seems to be louder under the bonnet, but hard to tell where from, From underneath seems quieter. Its not a harsh tap, like bottom end. Very light tap, sounds almost like a bucket with no oil getting to it, like its been stood for ages and waiting for oil to get around.

This is not my scoob, but it sounds a bit like this, but not so much on idle, more as you increase rpm.

Could this just be the Noisy Injector issue that alot of us seem to get. The first video of the car thats not yours, does sound like how my WRX is in the cold weather, quite a bit ticky as you say.

Tick when hot or cold. Coming from the Left hand side of engine if sitting in car, have put a bar on the engine and listened down the bar, and engine noise seems ok, injector pipe is noisy as hell!, but then both sides are.
Bit lost with it really,
Will get another video up later

dont think theres much to worry about...my car ticks a little and most scoobs ive heard are the same, sum very noisey sum not so much...my focus rs had a tick and when u increased revs the ticking got faster and that was cuz i had a slight crack on the manifold apart from the tick it ran fine...double check ur mani if its not that then god noes, but say i think with scoobs u will always get strange noises.
