Burning smell when starting from cold?
Hey all,
Blobeye STi, when stone cold as in not touched that day, makes a burning smell when started, starts fine, no judders or bad start, just starts right.
When warm or even slightly warm, no burning smell.
Any ideas where to start looking?
Thanks

I willl check all the grounding points and connections in the engine bay as that was my initial thought too.
Not entirely sure how to describe the smell, just a burning one. Sorry.
The manifold is wrapped, and this only happens from absolute cold, surely if it was leaking I would smell it when warm also? And too if the car was running? Would I not also see some sort of smoke or anything?
PS is O/S the passenger side? Thanks

No adverse effects, but bear in mind:
1. IF it starts to leak badly, it COULD catch fire. Unlikely, but I'd be a fool not to warn you.
2. Keep an eye on the oil level.
Looking under the bonnet's not easy to spot it, it's usually the rear end of the underside of the cam-cover. Easier to see if you remove the undertray, which you will have to do to fix it.
New gasket, genuine one and some sealant needed.
