Default Sti wrx v3 overboost.

Hi

Got my car running yesterday, ran fine until it got colder outside. So it's overboosting from 2nd at times.

It's main change was a silicon intake pipe, it's obviously let's more air at the turbo. We sealed all pipes going to the intake to make sure it wasn't getting extra air.

Then filled the car fuel full of super, to make sure it wasn't fuel surge, this only made it worse!

Plugged the green plugs together and im getting no clicking from the boost solenoid. So we bypassed the boost solenoid, so it runs directly off the actuator.

This totally cured overboost, I'm told it's running 7psi now. But still is an animal!!

Where do I go from here, I don't want more boost or power, so do I change the solenoid??? Or get an adjustable solenoid?

Do you have a full list of mods?

Will be checking the boost with a gauge tomorrow, seems to be spiking IMO!

As I said bypassing allows it to run perfectly.

It has had a bellmouth decat down pipe, k&n panel filter, silicon intake, and middle cat removed. Car was running with decat and bellmouth before fine. The k&n and the intake pipe are potentially causing the issues!

Should my solenoid be clicking during the test? What should my car boost at from standard, hopefully fitting a boost gauge to test.

Full decat = overboost, problem solved, fit standard catted pipe back on

Tony

PS, no centre cat on JDM STI's, they are a resonator box.

Most sensible option is likely to put an original exhaust on, or go on the hunt of an ecu. Can't justify paying a grand for an ecu. It's just a shame to get rid of the good bits. Wanted add coming up!

Well yes there is that to. The compressor wheel and housing from a vf34 is fitted. All the other internals are vf23.

Pretty essential bit of info left out there matey..! To have that running correctly it'll need to be mapped.

the turbo internals are irrelevant its the bit that says vf34 which pumps the air that matters.

Ha tell me about it, the bottom end has already been rebuilt for power £££ by api! Thanks for the info. I would rather not make the car anyfaster than what it already is! But running it unhealthily is just asking for trouble... Rather the the £££ wasn't going towards a remap and a rebuild lol

Best and cheapest option for you would be to go back to a VF23 or buy a use power fc and get it mapped.

Power fc can be had for about £300 and then same again for a remap, so for £600 you have a safe running car with better fuel economy and more power

Also, I noticed it has what appears to be a denso map sensor, it came to my attention because it doesn't look factory!! It's near the boost solenoid, and it's held on with 1 bolt, no bolt through the other hole on the sensor, it days denso on it.

As and when you get the car mapped, I would recommend Simon Roe (Jolly green monster)

You will also need to refit the standard downpipe, otherwise you will still get overboost

Cheers dude, don't actually posess a standard pipe, the Preza came with all these mods, except the massive compressor! So at least its a step in the right direction, I'm not ruling out remapping, just not at the minute! It's a money game!!!
