Default Idle Control Valve - How do I clean it?

My 03 WRX occasionally stalls when I stop and depress the clutch e.g. coming up to a roundabout or traffic lights.

I've heard this is probably the ICV that needs cleaning and I've seen some good instructions on the NASIOC forum, but these are for an older US scoob. So, is my blobeye WRX the same and will I need a new rubber gasket before I start?

I think you can clean them using Carb cleaner, or a toluene based spray.
If you want a gasket and can get the part number, I reckon I've got one here, I bought it by mistake, it's still in the packet, part number: 22659AA120

If that's the right one, you can have it for £1.50 posted. IIRC they are about £5 to buy.

I was told it's unusual for a newage to have a problem with the ICV, my similar problem turned out to be overfueling caused by a faulty lambda sensor i.e. crying lean when not, so may be worth getting it checked.

Could it be the throttle cable and it's associated throttle parts? Maybe need cleaned and greased?
Oh, and try not to type in "text" you'll get more, and better responses.

That's a good call, because my CEL flashes occasionally which I believe is an O2/lambda sensor fault.

Did yours have the same stalling problem?

my symptoms were, pulling up at traffic lights the revs would drop away to nothing and the engine would cut out. I then had to be careful just to wait a few seconds before trying to start it else it would turn over and over without firing up. Embarrassing! It would even do the same negotiating a roundabout.
I have a Simtek ecu which uses the O2 rear sensor not the front one.
I went down the same route thinking it was the ICV but Duncan Dynamix found the O2 sensor faulty.

Same here, I also have a Simtek ecu. I loosened the two screws on the ICV & gave it a really small twist to up the revs to just under 1k. Problem solved for me.
