Default What oil?????

Mate has a 95 import WRX.
Recently completed engine rebuild with forged pistons, crank, con rods. Uprated oil pump, oil cooler. Uprated cams. ARP bolts, lightened flywheel, Head and block work, Uprated de cat exhaust.
Running approx 300bhp

Just ran it engine (1000 miles) and going to do oil change............ Was planning to use Valvoline semi synthetic............ would this be the right choice or can anybody tell us otherwise.............

Hi

A 10w-50 is ideal if it's driven hard and these are the ones that we stock.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-659-10w-50.aspx

Both are really good oils, absolute top of the range ones, so go with any brand preference you have.

A 10w-40 is a better choice for normal use

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-657-10w-40.aspx

The best ones are the Gulf Competition, Motul 300V, Redline and Millers CFS. As a cheaper alternative the Fuchs XTR, Motul 6100 and Millers XSS are good choices.

Cheers

Tim

Default Oil advice

You recommend fully synthetic rather than semi?

Absolutely! They do a better job then 100% mineral based semi synthetic.

By all means, have a bash at using sunflower oil.

However, the vegatable oil may not be as big a joke as you may think. This is made from plant/vegatable esters http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-69290-fu...ngine-oil.aspx and can be used in the Subaru and is fully biodegradeable.

There is also the good'ol traditional castor oil http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-776-silk...ngine-oil.aspx

Cheers

Is there a discount code for scoobynet members oilman?

Just been on site and away to order some but thought I would check which one first!

Car is a 2006 wrx, fully decatted with headers and up pipe vf43 turbo and sti intercooler I'm just away to get it remapped for the turbo and intercooler and want to make sure I have the right oil in from the start.

What do you recommend? Was looking at the millers 10w 50. The car isnt used on track but am partial to a little bit of right foot.

Thanks

Doug

Hi Doug

When you register on the website, there is a dropdown menu of the clubs we support. Select Scoobynet from there, put your username or member number in the next box and then complete the registration. When you look at the site then, you should see the members prices above the normal prices. You pay the members prices, which include the 10% discount.

Over this weekend, so you'll need to order online as we're off in a minute, use the code JANFREE for free mainland UK shipping.

I'd go for a really good 5w-40 rather than 10w-50.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx

Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition. At the moment, there is an offer on the Pro S so you get a litre free with each 5 bought and the Gulf is £30 for 5L.

Cheers

Tim

1,000 miles is not long enough for running in an engine.1500-2000 minimum and in my experience the engine may still be improving at 5,000 miles.
I would then run a fully synthetic like Motul 300V or Royal Purple Race for hardest use and only 10W-40 on my own engines.
