Default Oil catch tank?

stupid question but i need to confirm, is the black cylinder behind the drivers headlamp on a 1996 sti an oil catch tank as im replacing it

As above - carbon cannister thing.

FTR, Scoobs are not fitted with any OEM oil catchcan system - certainly your MY isn't.

You basically disconnect all the oil breather hoses (plug the open ports left) and route the hoses to the top of a ally catchcan's ports. The cc can also have a further port for routing oil back to the sump (a lossless system), or simply vent down by the gearbox.

I have a API "back to sump" set-up on my STi 5.
