My 2006 service book has it for replacement every 30k miles.

just found this

2005 and Later Subaru Models
# For 2005 and later model years, Subaru incorporated the fuel filter into the fuel pump and moved the assembly into the gas tank. Because the fuel tank must be drained to replace the part, it should be only be changed by professional mechanics. Subaru suggests you have the fuel filter replaced on four-cylinder engines every 60,000 miles. On six-cylinder models, the fuel filter is rated for the life of your fuel pump and does not need to be replaced at a specific maintenance interval.

http://www.iwsti.com/forums/how-inst...placement.html gives a bit insight on how to do it.
The pump assembly doesn't need the tank emptied to be removed.

I've also seen other references to the filter being changed every 60 k on the hawkeye. I have no idea why my service book says 30k and why they extended the interval, as the engine bay mounted filter on older cars needs changing every 30k.

The service desk guy at Subaru St Leger Doncaster told me every 60k. Apparently Subaru messed up with the service book printing

I got my fuel pump changed today together with new filter.

The old filter had a spider on it, where did that come from!

As said above do not have to drain tank, is at the end of the fuel pump assembly as pictured above.

Old filter was pretty dirty.
