rear fog light
hi there, I have recently bought a wrx 1996 import and need to take it for MOT. Im checking all the lights etc but cannot seem to find the switch for the rear fog. The only 2 that look possible is a light on top of the steering column or another down by the handbrake. at the moment neither do anything but im thinking the bulb has gone. can anyone give me some guidence on the definate location of the switch? i've tried a search online but no joy. thanks - Sarah

i got an import sti on that year and it doesnt have a switch or a fog light for that matter. i bought a genuine switch and put in in the spare slot on the right by the folding mirror switch and wired it up to an after market fog light. bunged it on for mot then took it off after

import cars do not normally have a fog light they have to be after market fitted as yours is a 1996 car it dose not have to have whats called a SVA (single vehicle assessment) witch it checked over by VOSA stations an there horrible haha!!!!!
the switch on top of the console is for your side lights when you park in really dark places basically other cars will see it parked up! called parking light switch,
as the one on the hand brake PASS. also for MOT the switch should be mounted to the dash!
ALSO haha there is no fog light in the rear light cluster, one is needed to be fitted to the the bumper or what i do take the NSR rear reverse light out fit a red bulb an wire it to that! looks a million times better i dont have any trouble passing the mot's
(cars only need one reverse light an there still not part of an mot anyway)
hope i helped

Ah another dodgy import Sorry Sarah but the ammount of people who come on here with the same issue is amazing, I need to find the MOT garage that does these MOT's, they sound like they never see the car as its a legal requirement to have a fog light fitted and tested working to pass.
You may find your speedo is also not recalibrated to run MPH? and there may be a few other issues, worth getting a speciallist to check your car over and sort the problems out now rather than later
When its eventually fitted, the switch is normally down by the rhs of the steering wheel on where the little blanking plates are under the air vent

As already said the 'best way' to do this is to convert the near side reverse light to a fog light. And don't forget the illuminated switch on the dash. Our Wagon failed the MOT re rear fog light when we first bought it & yet had passed previously without one
