ECU advice
Have decided too do the engine build i have planned at the end of the year so i can get a better spec, but would like too have some fun with the standard engine until i get the new engine dec-feb 2012!!
i have bought a nice VF30 to put onto my '99 uk 2000, but was after a bit of guidance as to what modifications will suit it best.
Currently running engine mods:
Do-Luck panel filter
open-bell mouth de-cat
5zigen 2 3/4" exhaust system
Zero Sports inlet pipe
HKS ssqv
Standard TMIC (or have in garage a 97 sti TMIC)
I am getting fitted with the VF30 a nice shiney new set of RCM headers and also have a Greddy profec b spec2 boost controller with 3 port solenoid to go on.
was after advise on what ecu wise would be best route too go down...
Apexi FC with commander and Apexi boost solenoid
Simtek
Ecutek....
also is there any of the above which you guys would recommend to not bother with...
looking for 370bhp tops.

Think the VF30 is IRO 330bhp when mapped. Your UK (WRX spec) TMIC might be borderline here. The MY97 STi one has the DV located remotely to the TM, and I think the 'elbow' for the recirc pipe get's in the way of the MY99 ISCV(?).
But all that is irrelevent if you want to get somewhere near 370 - as you'll need a FMIC (or New Age STI TM) and a bigger tubby like a SC36, SC38 or 18g (360-380)... And also 550cc injectors!

Hi there i think with VF30 you will get 330-350bhp.You will need bigger turbo for 370BHP,like 18G,20G or SC series.
Second hand Simtek will be around £450-£650(remap £300),EcuTek will be £550-£650,Apexi will be around £450-£650(remap £250),depends on your budget.
Simtek is good,due Mafless feature and ALS...

RCMS headers won't do anything for your performance unless you go to one of my special 3 bolt uppipes and you would probably be better off with ported headers and matched uppipe.
At and beyond 300-320 bhp you will benefit from a Hybrid front mount intercooler but that will necessitate a cone induction kit so any expenditure on a panel filter now could be wasted.
The VF30 is a good turbo but I am not aware of any that do 350 bhp so you need to look at an 18G around 360 bhp or 20G around 380 bhp if you want to go that far and you will need 550cc injectors to get past 340 bhp or thereabout.

so you advise too stick with the stock ecu and just get Ecutek'ed (bob rawle shall be doing the mapping)
would love a simtek but would rather spend the extra money i would of spent on the simtek on better/more supporting mods.
can you pm a price delivered for one of your fuel pumps and also fuel regulators please?

If you were going to change the TMIC for a New Age one, then best getting the STi, not WRX, one. They seem to be able to do over 400bhp, from what I've gleaned.
But if you were seriously thinking to change the IC, then it would be best to go FMIC regardless, as you will have done it, future proofed yourself, and it won't need 'doing again'.
Even if you didn't actually 'require' it (due to low bhp airflow requirements), the engine will still 'thank you' for it, and give you peace of mind. A mapped-in FMIC is very safe for the engine, as the ACT's are significantly reduced, compared to those of the TMIC.
Also, because of these reduced post-FMIC ACTs, then for any given like-for-like mapped boost level, the FMIC will gain you a few percent more bhp/torque (when compared to a TMIC)...

You will also need to change turbos - the VF30 wont get there either
You will also need bigger injectors & fuel pump.
Best bet IMO would be to get Bob to map it up as you have specced it and see how you like driving it at whatever power level it comes out at. Most people just pick a power figure out of thin air as a target but what they really want is a quicker car.

Yes Spooks my friend, stick with the Ecutek as the Simtek is not a luxury you need just now.
Don't waste time or money on a WRX TMIC. the gains are minimal for you. STi8 TMIC if you must go top mount but a Hybrid FMIC will produce more power and control temperatures far better.
