Default Wrapping FMIC pipes

Is it worth heat wrapping these pipes in particular the two pipes that sit mostly in the engine bay

If its been done what did you use? Regular exhaust heat wrap?

Thanks in advance

Dan

Wisdom has it to wrap just the one from the IC core to the throttle body. This is because the charge has been cooled and you're insulating it from the underbonnet temps more if you lag it.

Regarding the turbo to IC pipe, leave unlagged. This is because the fresh-from-turbo charge is hot, so therefore better to have that hardpipe naked, so as to try to conduct away (lose) as much of that heat as possible, whilst on its way to the IC core...

Thanks Joz

Yeah agree with what you say. My other thought was that i may be able to protect the induction kit from turbo to core pipe, maybe say wrapping it from the turbo to the point it enters the cavity to the wing, then leaving it naked?

Gonna get some heat wrap oredered now

Yeah, by all means lag any hot pipework adjacent to/leading from the air filter - every little bit helps.

yeah but realistically. cost of wrapping vs performance gained its gonna be little, if anything what so ever, not even noticable.

Better off investing money elsewhere, ie ensuring good airflow into & out of the bay if using a fmic.

There are worthwile gains to be had from wrapping the pipework from the intercooler core outlet to the throttle body. If you run an air charge temperature guage and compare the readings before and after wrapping you will be surprised at the difference this can make particularly if you have been sat in traffic and also noticably so on hot Summer days.

Agreed.

Just that the OP asked the question (I assume he'll get more than enough heatwrap i.e. a 50ft roll to do all 3 jobs)

Cheers for the replies guys, im considering doing it as it will benefit (albeit slightly) but to my eye will also look better. Already have the other bases mentioned covered
