Oil pressure light

Oil pressure light
I set off today and got about 1/4 of a mile and noticed my oil pressure light (the little can symbol) was very dimly glowing, I had to look twice to ensure I wasn't seeing things. I stopped immediately and got the car on the level. The oil level is fine although a pain to read, sometimes it looks like it's hitting the 'F' and others just above the half way line.
I rang the local Subaru dealer and they offered to top up the oil if needed so I restarted and the light came on with the ignition very brightly and went off once the car started. Down at Subaru they agreed the oil was fine. My suspicion is that some water has caused this as I was cleaning the engine bay today with a low pressure hose. Since this I've started and run the car three times and all seems well.
What are your thoughts guys, I'd hate to knacker the engine......

Maybe water getting into the sensor wires and shorting it a bit. I'm not a big fan of hoses in engine bays espesially one like a scoob with so many sensors. I used to do it to my old astra, but always kept the engine running...

Thanks mate,
The local Subaru garage reckon that as I admitted washing down the engine and the oil was fine then the water was the likely culprit. Their suggestion was to run it, keep an eye on the oil and if it flickers or comes on even once more get it in for a check.

The exact same thing has happened to me in the past after steam cleaning the engine bay, there was no fault with mine and it cleared up a while. There is nothing to worry about mate

Then just wipe it down with a microfiber cloth, doing bit by bit, working my round the bay. It esy and the results are very good.

Thanks for all the replies. It's not come back since the dull glow which only occurred once and I have since rechecked the oil which is fine and the car has been driven around 40 miles with no problems. My guess is the water, so a slap on the wrist for me I think!
