hi guys very new to the subaru.....just got me self a 2004 sti type uk 265 fully standard apart from probrive back box...thinkin about gettin a remap as its all i can about afford at the moe...but been told theres no point unless u have a decat aswell is this the case...wat gains can i exspect of a remap on a standard car bhp,torque???? any help or advice would be great cheers guys...jay

Welcome. If someone has told you it's "pointless" to have the car remapped without a decat, they're talking from where the sun don't shine. Indeed many people prefer to leave the standard exhaust parts in place in order to ensure there are no problems at MOT time.

If you have it properly mapped right now, you could easily expect both the power and torque numbers to begin with a 3. Depending on what sort of nick everything is in, you could realistically expect something around 330bhp. Sure, you'd get a little bit more if you fitted a free flow (or sports-cat) based exhaust system, but there's certainly no reason not to do so.

There is, maybe, an economic imperative to delay a remap: That is, if you have your car mapped now, and then decide to fit a sports cat/decat at some point in the future, clearly it'll cost you a bit more money at that point to have the engine checked and maybe map tweaked for those new bits. So if you have plans for further modifications it'd be up to you to judge the timing and work out what represents best value for money.

The straight answer to your question though is that if you want a remap now, and don't have any plans to change other parts in the near future, there's no reason not to go ahead and find yourself a mapper whose experience and reputation you trust.

A standard UK STI will be transformed by a remap. As Splitpin says, might be worth waiting until you're sure you want to keep the car standard. A decat/ sport cat and remap will truly transform the car.

Duncan is correct, and 330 your havin a gerraf. Fuel pump and 100 or 200 sport cat down pipe is cool and it keeps your mot. Plus as soon as that torque goes up 300+ and the age your clutch will start to slip. Same thing happened to me. Duncan and JGM are both great mappers and you can't forget Fiesta Boy if your near Middlesex

is it a late 04 with the rear arch extensions?

if so they are a fantastic engine and the best of the lot.. would expect 330 from one on standard cats.. on the ppp exhaust I have see 353bhp.. probably knock 10 to 15bhp off that if it is the earlier 04.. so I would hope to see 315bhp.

thanx for the quick replys guys...its the early 2004 registered march 2004 me thinks....as insurence and buying the car skint me a little a map is probly the onley mod i want to do to it and probly a decat in the near future but dont want to mod it to much as clutch may also need replacing in due time with the extra bhp...JGM im based leicester i take it u map cars then any chance of a price and gettin mine sorted...plzzzzzzzz...jay and it was scooby works based loubourgh who said it would be pointless with out decat panel filter etc......

i wish i went with the ppp i test drove one and the difference is incredible it pulls alot harder high up the rev range...i went with the 265 as it had 10000 miles less then the ppp... i feel with the 265 theres a flat spot mid way and up towards the end of the rev range, 2nd and 3rd the pull is good but onley lasts between 2500 and 5000...inless my cars not running rite should it keep on pulling al the way up to lets say 6500.

they normally tail off a little later than 5000rpm but generally fairly rubbish in standard form at higher rpm.

You'll get a far better return for your ££££ with an aftermarket remap than PPP. As above, standard UK cars are pretty poor out of the box, but easily made to come alive.
