Default Is FMIC the right next step?

Hi guys,

I have a 02 WRX Wagon that has had a fair amount of work done by TDi in Thurrock.

Engine and exhaust mods are:

PPP
HKS Manifold
HKS Drager exhaust
HKS Super Power Flow induction
HKS FCON
HKS Boost Controller

This was all on the car when I bought it a year ago, and now I’m after more power. Talking to TDi, who have always been very helpful and seem to know their stuff, they recommend an FMIC as the next step. However, from what I’ve read online, this should only be considered once bigger injectors or turbo has been fitted.

Can anyone point me towards any good sources of information on this topic or share their experiences or knowledge? I’ve had a search but didn’t have much luck.

Comments welcome.

Thanks,

-al

Not worth fitting a FMIC with your current turbo imho.

Even when/if you do change turbos I would fit a STi TMIC for anything upto 450bhp.

Hi there depends on your BHP.If you are still running just TD04 turbo is waste of money and effort.
At first look for VF34-35,STi pink injectors and after this remap and you will see 330-350BHP,but next issue will be your gearbox or clutch(upgrade as well this),and i recommend you upgrade your TMIC to STi TMIC(STi TMIC is good for up to 420BHP-450BHP).

I guess I just don't understand why they would recommend this, rather than new turbo/injectors?

Hi there which turbo you are now running?
If you are now running standard turbo TD04,is pointless get FMIC.And from this TD04 you are get top 270-280BHP(if you are lucky 300BHP).
Stick with TMIC or get STi 7/8 TMIC .

Interesting guys. I have been trying to decide wherever to go top or front mount on my wagon. Its a 1997 wrx sti import. A fmic was going to be one off the mods i was going to do soon but now i'm not so sure!

So thank you

on an sti its worth doing, td04 is only application where you wouldn;t want to go front mount

Fmic is way more efficient than a tmic. Even if the sti tmic is capable of 420=450hp, you will see lower intake temps, which is better.

Al, do you have any indication of current power? It is probably in the 280-300 bracket for a good setup with a TD04 turbo.
Your top mount is quite adequate for what you are doing at present all the way to around 350 plus bhp. At some point around there or a little past there you will get gains from a front mount from the reduced air charge temperatures and reduced pressure drop across the core. Until you get towards 350 bhp I would suggest you should be looking at STi Pink injectors and VF35 or 34 turbo, TD05 18G or similar.
Scooby Frog : Al has an 02 WRX Wagon and you have a 97 Classic so what is good for Al is different for you but you should be looking at a front mount somewhere after 300 bhp and by 320 bhp or thereabouts subject to turbo, you will get good gains from an effecient front mount.
