Yup, what Shaun said. I assume your turbo has retired? Might as well get something better while your at it. VF34 from the JDM Bug STI RA might be worth looking at if you don't want something too extreme.

Can't go wrong with the VF34. Personally think they suit a WRX better though.

But the VF34 is better better over VF35.

The Vf34 is a roller bearing Turbo so will spool up faster and give better pick up from low speed.... If you fit it then the DENSO ECU you have will look on it as a VF35 and won't really be able to take advantage

Are you thinking about having the car re-mapped ??

the Bugeye STi left the factory in Japan ( UK and Jap) completely crippled in terms of what could be achieved........the performance bargain of the decade

Upgrade! You know you want to. Since the car has pretty much most of the supporting mods to go along. I'd say do it. And since you already have ecutek, you can just map it to suit the VF34 or any other turbo you fancy.

If your looking for a std turbo, I will be removing mine soon I think, and going for a td05-18g.

With a little tweak the VF35 can make big bhp and there is no way the 34 outspools the 35. The P15 turbine housing on the 35 would lay waste to the 34 in spool time hands down.

Why is that?

The reason for choosing a VF34 over a 35 I mean.

More reliable for one Iain as you see lots of folk needing 35's but how often do you see any one here needing a 34 thats failed?
Secondly from my experience of driving scoobs with both turbos id say the 34 is smoother on delivery which to my mind means quicker spool no to hammer in the back, but each to there own.

Nope, totally wrong
The 34 may have a larger housing but its roller bearing and is a better turbo than the 35, end of its also more responsive due to the lower friction of the roller bearing, but there is virtually nothing in it compared to the 35, except its bigger and has a better top end (hence you see it on all the RA's/S202 in bug form)

Ok guys go easy, in my experience I have found the 35 better, each to their own. The 35 is a strong turbo but it is prone to boost creep on a full decat which if unseen will kill the turbo or the engine which probably accounts for a large amount of failed VF35s

The 35 is a good turbo no doubt but it just isn't as good or efficent as the 34 or reliable, but good results from yours none the less Iain

Well so far mine has been, good, very efficient and reliable. Like I said each to their own, thanks for the positive feedback though

Who knows I may have a play with a VF34 and see what I can get out of that, if the results I got off the 35s are anything to go by the 34 should see nearer 400.

Cheers Iain

VF34 would struggle for near 400 unless you play around with some methanol

In my experience the VF35 with all supporting mods on V-Power or similar will do 340 bhp and it is a tough turbo. Similarly I would rate the VF34 up to another 15 or 20 bhp ahead of the VF35. Just my experience to date.

Welder029

I'm sure Harvey can get you a Turbo to get the 380 BHP you would like, and supply the supporting mods, and sort it out for you in Darlington

He's just too shy to admit it LOL

Sounds like a challenge to me, after all the VF35 is a 340/350bhp turbo not a 380bhp turbo

AT was 14 and the IT was down as 40+ but I guess the temp sensor must have been in the rad wash or something as the IT should have been closer to 16 or 17.

I think it is important you clarify this.
What was the ambient temperature and what was the air charge temperature and how was the air charge temperature measured?
What correction factor was applied to arrive at the 380 bhp figure?

Quick Reply: what turbos should be in an STI Bugeye ?
