Default uneven when balanced throttle

Hope someone can help
my 1998 turbo 2000 the cars lacks even pull when the throttle is in a balanced state anywhere under 3000 revs. Put another way when you hold it on 2000 revs eg in second gear particularly from cold... you feel it oscillating and fractionally die then pickup again. Its not that pronounced and only the driver would know.
What causes this?

I dont know if its related but my idle has roughish feel to it at 1000 revs ( bit like mild missing) but 2000 revs and no load its smoother.

I've no mods as i keep this car standard right down to exhaust. It has improved a bit with shell v power especially the torque.

I do have no.1 piston slap too when cold but really no power loss once warm when it boosts from 2500 revs.

The rough idle .....could that be spark plug at all or would that be a problem right through the power range.

I agree the maf could be faulty but its a very pricey purple label one so I'm reluctant to explore that until i get a more obvious symptom. can it be diagnosed when running by dealers? i dont want to be ripped off though.

Regards hose split etc would that create problems a high speed too as I dont get any drop off and motorway cruise is smooth enough i think.

ill get there in the end

I had a lambda sensor causing the same symptoms as you,
Try unpluging it next time you drive it.

if its playing up and giving wrong readings it will run better without it being plugged in as it will just run on closed loop.
It wont do any harm.
