Must admit ive heard this myself but if any one can sort it they can good luck as the ihi vf series are very costly to buy new
But there are plenty out there secondhand so you'll be ok i would think

You could also try Universal Turbos, the VF series can be reconditioned with the exception of the roller bearing variants (VF34 & VF36) from memory.

I had a VF48 overhauled by Universal (new impellor shaft, both wheels and balanced with a new actuator as well). They bench test for 2 hours, plus they clipped back the blades for me as well.

It was £350 which I think is good value when compared to some of the prices that second hand and unknown turbo's sell for on here, plus a 12 month warranty as well.

I used CR turbos, they arranged a courier, checked that the turbo wasn't internally damaged, all the blades were, and I sent them my TD04 to offset the cost, it was £80 plus VAT, the turbo makes 300bhp on my car with a TMIC
