Default newbie with a strange fault

firstly ill say hi as im new to this site and the scooby world..

i have a little problem thou ill like your opinions on..

ok....every now and again my scooby has a dead spot between 1500rpm and seems to clear when car hits 2500rpm..strange thing is it only happens from time to time.also i have noticed that while sittng at a nice steady speed eg 60mph or 70 mph i somethingd feel like a surging feeling like the car is not just running right..and finally also every now and again if car is left ticking over the revs drop to where the car is just about to stall and wud stay like this few a few seconds or until accelerater is pressed..
forgotto mention the car in question is a 1999 (classic) impreza 2000 uk turbo..

if anyone could give me any suggestions as to what the problem could be that would be great...

many thanks

Could be a failing maf as the 99 car has quite a fragile maf. But this is only a guess mate, its hard to solve an intermitten problem like this over the interweb...

firstly hello and welcome to "scoobynet" and to the scooby scene.
well this could be a number of things really and you could end up spending a small fortune trying to solve it. i would recommend taking it to a scooby specilest. do you have a standard airbox or a induction kit?

It sounds like the maf but as turboaddict has said, only one way to prove it properly and that is to go to a speciallist.
Maf sensors will set you back around 100-112 quid (as the price has just gone up )
I will add that not sorting these issues out isnt a good idea, it can lead to terminal engine failure in some cases (welcome to the 3k bill)

Tony
