Default oil

hey guys, i live in thailand and have a MY97 STI

i need to get the engine oil, gearbox oil, diff oil and maybe the brake fluid changed.

however im not sure what oils/fluids should be used, if anyone can help and advise me it would be very useful!

i have checked online but have found various suggestions, just wondering if you guys can offer some advice.

I have always been told to use 10w40 as 5w40 is too thin.
is this correct ?

ok well got the car back,

engine oil and filter,
fuel filter,
brakes bled and new fluid,
gearbox oil,
rear diff oil,
clutch pedal adjusted,
full check of the entire car.

just under 100 quid, so i think not bad. labour was 8 pounds.

how are they making any money?............a mechanics salary here is 10 quid a day - if hes very lucky.

things are very different here. parts are cheaper due to the low incomes in comparison to the west...............100 quid is a months salary for the average person working in a shop or restaurant.

the fuel filter and oil filter are NOT genuine subaru parts, they are practically impossible to find so you have to make do with the nearest thing available.

clutch adjustment was just tightening up the pedal a little because is was a bit loose, i was too lazy to do it myself.

also what is so crazy is that i paid 8 quid for labour, thats for 3 guys working on the car at the same time!

oh, i forgot to add that the price included a full check of the car including brake check, suspension and electrical system.
