Brilliant find ^^^.

I had no idea they existed. They must be a recent addition to CD's product range...?

You will still need to cut the ph1 intake manifold and extend it about 12mm to fit on to ph2 heads, they adapters only change the bolt pattern so that you can use existing bolt holes in head. you would really need to swap the heads over and use your fanimold which will bolt straight on. but that requires new head gaskets, and timing belt, but it would probably be better to change these before fittin the engine anyway....

Thing is, it's so worthwhile cutting/extending/welding the phase 1 manifold, as obviously the MY99 heads are soooooooo much better than phase 1 jobs.

But that said, if the OP doesn't want more than c.380bhp, then he could make life 'easier' by indeed just swapping the whole existing ph.1 top end over to the ph.2 MY99 bottom end...

If the OP wants the engine fitted "today", those brackets, and the work required in making use of them, are clearly not the way forward.

L555, what's the purpose of this engine replacement? Are you removing a broken one and after a quick drop-in plug and play solution, or...?

Well i think Splitpin hit the nail on the head again
Some points why you should fit like for like engines
It's far less hassle
The injectors are different sizes so it will probably blow up anyway
It will require remapping or the above will probably happen
It's always better to rebuild if you can as you don't know what's up with the engine you have just bought

right i have a my93 wrx and the heads have blown i also have a forester which i bought a while ago with a g/box problem so when the g/box give up completely ithought id use the engine from the 99 forester in my WRX i didnt think there was a diff untill later on and thought it would be just a straight swop
but after a few hours of fecking about today i managed to swop all the wireing over from the my93 manifold over onto the my99 manifold and tryed the key
and she started
it has an ideling problem due to the idel valve not being a 100% swop but at least i know its nearly done now
its been off the road 3/4 of the time that ive owned it so hopefully with this better engine in and a remap soon to make sure its all running right i will have at least one trouble free year with the bloody thing
but then again it wouldnt be a scooby then would it lol

Your problems will be much more significant than merely idling issues. Just getting this thing to turn over under its own power doesn't unfortunately mean you're "nearly there". The complicating factor is that the newer engine you have is from a Forester, which means those of us used to Imprezas will have to make a few assumptions.

You would appear to have two major issues to deal with, and at least one of them cannot be mapped around. The first is that your MY93 ECU is calibrated for 380cc/min injectors and your MY99 engine (presumably) has 440's. You may be able to map around that. Unless the Forester engine has smaller ones.

The second issue is that the older ECU is designed for a solenoid-based idle controller while the MY99 engine uses a stepper motor. There is no way of remapping or reprogramming an earlier ECU round that problem as it simply doesn't have the hardware to drive the stepper. Note too that the idle control valve actually does a lot more than control the idle.
