Default Induction options after going MAFless

I'm getting a simtec ecu fitted later this month and I'm wondering what is the best thing to do induction wise?
I currently run a hks panel filter with a standard air box, can I keep this when the MAF is removed or should I go down the route of a cone filter with heat shield?
If I keep the panel filter, do I need to replace the pipework where the maf sensor sits and if so , what with?
Car is a my99 rb5 with td05 16g, should be running about 300/300 (i think) after the simtec is fitted.
Anyone already running a simtec -what have you done? Pics most welcome
Cheers

You can keep your panel filter, just unplug the maf sensor

...although I only unplugged mine because of going induction with the FMIC...keep the panel filter and using the maf as a connector is fine IMHO...

As above, your 16g will make a max of 340-350bhp, which is also about the limit of the std panel filter/induction tract and MAF tube. So just disconnect the MAF connector and leave it at that.

If however you decide to fit a bigger turbo, injectors etc, for more bhp, then you'll really need to junk all of the stuff mentioned, and replace with a simple tuned trumpet/large K&N combo, prior to mapping...

Cheers for the quick replies, the thing is, I don't want to leave the maf sensor in there as it's almost new, I want to remove it and keep it safe incase I ever revert everything back to standard ( or flog it to recoup some of the cost of the simtec ) I'm thinking I'll have a hole in the pipe work where the maf was removed from? will i not need to blank it with something

Actually, forget the last question, I'll just swap my good maf with a broken one I have lying around somewhere.

Yeah you could replace the decent MAF tube with an old non-working one.... but I'd simply be inclined to remove the OEM filter/inlet trunking and go for the large K&N/trumpet and get mapped.

Stick with the OE airbox until you are ready to go above 350 bhp. Personally I would not use HKS filter. Use either K+N or OE Panel. Anything you can do to smooth out air flow is good so removing the MAF sensor from the body and filling in the indent with filler, substituting a silicon pipe or similar is a good move but really is fine tuning.
