Maximum boost on a vf34
Hey guys I got a vf34 from a very helpful member on here a while back and I'm just wanting to know whats the most boost people are/were running. I'm hearing that people are killing the seals with anything over 1.5 bar is this true would I not be able to go higher than this. I'm not running it on a Scoob either. Cheers for any help.

Cool thanks dude I have everything I need to up the boost just want to make sure I can without killing it. 24psi sounds sweet but could I take it to that and would it be still efficient at that also? Cheers mucho appreciated

Cool nice one dude I'll have a look at that. Seems a very gradual turbo does'nt come in with a kick as such very deceptive imo you dont think its pulling really hard until you look at the clocks lol. Full boost for me is 4600 rpm lol its a pretty big turbo for a 1300cc.

Na td04 is to small looking to break 300 which should be possible with this td04 is only good for 260/70. TD04 is a good turbo for these but just not what I'm looking for. Having some det problems at the moment hopefully get them sorted. Thanks for your help mate really appreciate it.

i used to have a gt turbo at 203 with a tdo4 on and it surprised a lot of cars do not under estimate them! oh and they handle like a go kart there just a bit bigger than a 106 :-\

The VF34 is capable of 360 bhp on a 2 litre Subaru. That does not mean it will do 360 bhp but with all supporting mods it is capable of around that figure.
I don't know anything about seals being blown out at high boost and think you might have been in a pub or on the internet to get that crap.
High boost is not the be all and end all of getting power. If you put some effort in to it you might be able to find a compressor map which will show where the turbo is efficient. From my experience I would guess the turbo is efficient at 1.5 bar but if you go any higher than perhaps 1.6 bar all you will be doing is making the turbo work harder, creating a lot of heat and no additional power. That doesn't mean to say you cannot run a VF34 at 1.7 bar or even 1.8 bar. The only thing is there is no point and I suspect you will find that somewhere around about 1.5 to 1.6 is optimum. This is why you need a good mapper because he will see what is happening at various boost levels and will determine the best boost for your turbo on your car. On the same model car with slightly different modifications, particularly the headers, uppipe and exhaust the most efficient boost to operate at will change from car to car.

Cheers dude I'm not expecting 360 out of a 1300cc I'm just going by figures of vf35's on same car making 300+ so should have a small bit more with a 34. As for the seals I've being told dont run a ball bearing vf over 1.4 or it will **** iself bearings included.
I did'nt take it seriously tbh as I've looked into it a good bit and its running a bit more than 1.4 at the moment I just wanted some reassurance from people running these and at what kind of levels as its a pricey piece of kit but I do want to get the most out of it without being afraid it will die. I really appreciate your response dude cant find anything useful on other forums so I said I'd come on here and get proper info.
Many thanks

Your performance on a 1300cc will be greatly degraded over that on a 2 litre running to 7 or 8000 revs. Plenty guys on here will be running VF turbos at 1.5 and 1.6 bar and I guess a few may be running beyond that but possibly in ignorance but it does not appear to cause a failure on the cartridge.
How the turbo will work on your car I do not know but it will be interesting but I think you may find the VF34 is too big for 1300 cc.
Good luck with it and I hope you can push the boundaries of knowledge and performance. Please give us feedback when you have it.
