Default guys, after 3 days im pulling my hair out, help please.

right guys ive bought a 95 wrx to give the missus and when i bought it, it was dragging air in through the inlet manifold gaskets. so when i stripped it all down the gaskets were shot at.

so i replaced and rebuilt. turned it over and the car ran like a dream, left it to idle to get upto temp to check for water blockage etc and all was good, so i ran down the road, got about half a mile and the car just died.

so i checked just about everything, fuel pressure everything. the car was turning over, trying to fire and then dying. after checking everything i decided to strip everything down again.

i checked everything and put back together, i fired the car up and it ran again, sweet as a nut. for about 5 minutes. then it died again.

im now at the end of my teather, and dont know what to check.

the car has a fuelab pressure guage and that reads 3 bar when at key position 2. the fuel pipes coming out of the filter are pressured up.

ive unplugged crank and cam sensor. ive cracked the injector rail nuts off at number 2 pot and there is fuel at that one. i havnt checked the rest.

im well untruly stuck now, its winding me up. surely i cant have got something wrong twice????????

any help or suggestions would be greatful.

try unplugging the temp sensor. It's on the back of the crossover pipe.

surely the engine temp does not affect it starting. mine has starting issues too but never thought it would be that!!

The bigger one is the CTS i.e. the one that tells the ECU to fuel more when cold, etc.

The small one is just for the temp gauge readout in the binnacle.

so you think that if its not working then its telling the ecu to fuel more, i.e flooding??

just unplugged the crank sensor, cam sensor and coolant temp sensor one by one, and when unplugged the car just wont run.

the two times i built the inlet manifold back up the car has ran perfect for 5-10 minutes, then died after, both times. so its something thats shutting the engine down, the car tries to fire again but just wontfire and run, if i keep tapping the revs when firing then it will try and rev, but as soon as i stop, it cuts out again.

Are you getting any errors on the ECU?

Does it start fine form cold every time, then cuts out when hot?

Or is it not running right from cold also

sounds like temp sensor. I would try one of these before anything else. keeping the cold start open when it should stop it..

Temp sensor usually fails the oposite way - ie; assumes the engine is hot, and makes it difficult to start when cold due to no enrichment.

Could you possibly have a couple of coil packs that are dying when hot? What condition are they in?

My temp sensor failed cold, the PFC thought it was -46C. Problem was it only failed when the coolant was hot, so ran fine for 5-10 mins whilst getting up to temp, then car choked itself on fuel, then wouldn't restart. if i left it for an hour or so the car had cooled down enough for the sensor to work again.

the car doesnt start hot or cold, it sort of starts but doesnt idle, just dies. there isnt any engine check light on and ive disconected the battery to try and reset the ecu.
