oil pressure question
hi guys fitted my new gauges today, when cold oil pressure is about 6.5bar and when warm it is 2bar, although today a wzrm day my oil temp hit 100 degrees and temp dropped as low as 1.5bar is this ok, my level is bang on half way between the 2 dots....

has it had a rebuild at any point? if yes it could have had different engine bearings with a larger clearance for more oil flow maybe? that would cause it. mine was rebuilt with acl race bearings which give a larger clearance and my oil pressure runs roughly the same as yours.

1.5 bar [ 22 psi ] is a tad low, but no worryingly so at 100 degrees oil temp. 6.5 bar is fine at cold. Above 110 degrees and you can expect an engine failure very soon, no oil in the world, no matter how expensive, will keep a Subaru engine together at 115 degrees
The type of oil will help improve hot oil performance. Use either 10W40 or 50 OR 15W40 or 50 never less than 10W on the lower number. Proper oil like Shell / Castrol / Silkolene / Motul, etc., etc..
ACL Race bearings do not naturally have a wider clearance - unless you set them that way. What they do have is a stronger bearing backing material that helps take the stronger load of a performance engine working hard.
Wider clearance means early engine failure in my book........

I have a 03STI, and my gauges show 1.5bar oil pressure too... This was after a 100+mile ride, with the temp reading 90degrees.
The last few days, it been sitting at just over 2bars.
Is this something i should start worring about??
What check can i do?

Err - no-one seems to have mentioned at what rpm these figures relate to. From the figures quoted, I assume it's the idle pressure? If so, 1.5bar at 750 rpm with no load is not brilliant but ok. Surely it would have been more relevant to have quoted the running pressure (>3k rpm)

As David says above. Some cars run lower oil pressure than others. I have a car here that has been driven very hard and has about 1.5 bar on tick over, 10W-40 Royal Purple oil On 15W-50 Motul it was around 2 bar. The car has done a high mileage like this and no issues. Max oil pressure fully hot is 65 psi or 4.5 bar ish.

Following on from previous posts I am assuming tick over pressure.
1.5 is a tad low as l said before, but if the car is on Crapolene oil then it will be .
2 bar is where I'd like it to be, but after 100 miles and with no knowledge of oil viscosity or brand it isn't disastrous hot.
