Question Misfire! its driving me CRAZY!!! help please!!!

hi iv got a misfire on my impreza wrx sti v2 redtop 1995!

the misfire only occurs when you get the engine up to temperature and turn the car off, leave it an hour and restart the engine!

iv rang scooby clinic up and they "advised" coils packs! so i put new coil packs on it and put new plugs in it!

still we have a bloody misfire! the misfire stays for about 30 seconds after restarting the engine, and going up the road in it! its as if the engine clears its self? im no mechanic but i can do a few bits, but this ones really bugging me!

iv tried my mates MAF sensor and it still does it with his on, so it aint that!

what else can it be?

cheers in advance for help people

As above, prob HT leads insulation knackered and getting condensation in. Tomorrow morning, liberally spray them with WD40 and leave for about 5mins+. Then start car. if the misfiring as absent from start-up/warm-up, then suspect HT leads.

Did you gap the plugs correctly?

Could be Lambda sensor.

Or MAF (but less likely).

Tried another maf but still get the same prob!

I rang scoobyclinic and they told me not to bother gappin the plugs, it started doin this with old plugs anyway!

Are the ht leads the ones that go from the 4 coil packs?? What they goto other end? Im no mechanic but i know a few bits!

Ill try another lamba sensor tonight and report back here

i appreciate your help guys, tar

Your car has the coils built into the leads themselves. The coils fit directly over the tops of the plugs, in the heads.

Yer iv replaced the coils mate, each coil has about 20-30cm of wire on da end which then plug into seperate connectors. So which bit is he on about spraying with wd40?

Sorry for being dumb

Just spray the whole leads/loom as much as you can.

It prob won't be the issue, but if it is, then this should highlight it, as WD40 is wicked water dispersant...

It's prob the lambda, seeing as you've replaced the coilpack-leads and plugs.
