Can anyone help?
i have just come home from a fairly hard drive and noticed a horrible tapping noise. on idle its not there but when i take it upto 2000 rpm it gets really bad and then seems to go slightly and occurs less but is still there. never had a noise like it and cant find it anywhere it sounds a little like piston slap but isnt there on tick over.

can anyone help?

sounds like the bearings have gone.

go under the bonnet and rev the car up and down slowly, if you hear the kocking/tapping come and go at a certain rev range, this is a v good tell tell sighn that a rebuild is on the cards

Sorry Dan, idle ok, rev it and around 2k it knocks sounds like a shell gone.
On the plus side, you have caught it before something really lets go.

defo bottom end dan. spun a shell i've had the same problem with my 53 wrx. my crank got that bad i could'nt get it ground down o it would weaken it to much i'd hav the same problem again. so it cost me 700 for a recond bottom end, 80 for the gaskets 70 for engine and gearbox oil plus anti freeze with labour on top.... Oooo happy days
