Default Quick Clutch Questions

my clutch feels like it is slipping.... mainly feel it in 3rd,4th and 5th gears when i put my foot down.

also the bite point is quite high, and it sometime judders when pulling away in 1st.

new clutch kit was installed about 18 months old so it has failed quite quickly.

is it worth me replacing the wholde kit again?, or just the clutch plate only?

also...a long shot, is there anything else that could give the feeling of clutch slip?

thanks

The only other thing that would cause slip is oil contamination on the clutch.

Always best to replace the whole clutch kit.

What sort of mods have you done to your car?

I have just had an Exedy Organic clutch Kit and Light Flywheel fitted today, and although I realise there is a period of bedding it in, the clucth slips noticeably in 3rd, 4th & 5th when the boost kicks in. Is this normal for a new clutch to do this???

I have put the car in the low boost switchable map to stop this happening. But surely this isnt normal??

Any advice please???

Ps it was fitted by professionals.

No. Get it checked. A brand new clutch should not slip at all under power, bedding in or not.

The symptoms you're reporting possibly suggest otherwise! Either that or the kit you've had fitted doesn't exert sufficient clamping force to transfer the torque your engine is producing. It's either that or the rear crank seal is allowing a significant quantity of oil to get back to the clutch - which again points to a fitting issue as the mechanic should have noticed the leakage.

This is not normal. Where did you buy it from and have it fitted?

For a standard clutch, yes.

Do you know what clutch you're getting for that?

230mm version fitted as standard on your model.

Not normal, thanks for this.....

Looks like its going back then. At this stage Im not going to name the Garage although the are well recognised and used on here, but the Clutch is from Nationwide Clutch Distributors or this as they are know as http://www.theflyingclutchman.com/index.html .

What do you think?

What boost are you running.

I have a 95 Classic STi running top 1.4. c.320/320+ with a TD05.

Pink Box Exedy 230 3 part Kit
Lateral 6.3kg flywheel + Subaru bearing, dowells etc
Replaced the rear main oil seal for OEM subaru part to be safe.

No detectable slippage, no judder, smells etc etc etc, noisier but thats about it.

Bedding in lol, yours sounds wrong.

Yes it sounds very wrong, not happy.

I was running around 1.35/1.4 boost, ought to be more soon but not had the map tweaked yet. Currently running around 320ish, but again hoping more like 330-340 with the map tweak in the near future.

Exedy 3 part
Exedy Light flywheel

I didnt carry out the work although i was on site when it was done asking questions (as you do). So im unsure if seals have been replaced.

Obviously I stripped 2nd gear last week, so the garage was replacing the box for me, thus i got a new clutch (makes sense, or not as it seems at the moment.)

As they informed me to take it easy to bed the clutch in I havent set off hard in 1st so im unsue of any slippage here, but certainly on the motorway on the way back 3rd, 4th and 5th slipped very noticeably. I pulled up at a service station and rung the garage who said its not normal in one breath but then in the 2nd breath they said it needs time to bed in so it should be ok .

NOT PLEASED at all.

To my knowledge yes they need to bed in but for life longevity not that they will slip until bedded in. TBH after a period of about 100 miles I use mine full throttle and it bites funkin awesome, apart from the additional noise it's like a new car again chompin at the road !

lets talk worse case scenario...

whats the worse thing that could be discovered when my clutch gets done.

hopefully, it will just be straight forward. but knowing my luck something will go wrong!!

just want an idea of what i may expect, one thing the guy said was may need a new rear oil seal....any other thoughts?

I'd still want my fly skimmed and cleaned, new kit and oil seal should be good as new. The oil seal is an interference seal as I understand it so on older cars its a good idea to change it as it may be starting to weap. Mine was fairly ok but showed a little moisture around the seam. My 95STi clutch was the original as was the seal, so as a £20 part it's stupid not to take advantage of it's accessibility.

he said he would inspect flywheel and install a recon skimmed one if it needed it.

is there any way the gearbox could be leaking anything onto clutch?
