Does the MAf sensor just fail or will it go gradually, the reason i ask is i had the car MY99 turbo at an auto electricians on friday because it seemed to be running with a misfire and loads of hesitation especially on part throttle. The sparky checked everything over a period of six hours and the only thing he could find wrong was the voltages on the MAF sensor not giving out what they should, so it is working just not within the correct tolerances, would this cause the "running like a bag of sh!te" syndrome or is it likely to be a mechanical problem?

Is your check engine light on?

When mine went the the stalled and rolled to a halt, when i restarted the car the check light came on.

It would drive around not producing any boost and not really go above 4000rpm.

Went to subaru and they comfirmed it was the MAF with the select monitor.

£230 later the car was fine.

By the why did you recently fit a new air filter as it was a week after fitting mine that it went.

Sounds as though its failed, reason for the 0.5 bar boost is ecu is in "limp home" mode and runs from a set of default values, you need to get it sorted pdq as it is only really what it says ... "limp home" and get it fixed.

oil on your filter sticks to the sensor and burns it out. use dry type filters.

Hi,

I have a 97 R Reg UK Subaru Impreza and I'm suffering from the car hunting on tickover anywhere between 100rpm and 900rpm. The car has actually stalled on me as the revs die. I have just had a new Magnex exhaust fitted and was wondering if this was the problem (do I need to adjust anything due to new exhaust). Also the air filter (K&N) has just been cleaned and re-oiled and this seems to have made the problem worse! The car really is undriveable at the moment cos the revs just die as I roll to a halt. Could it be the MAF sensor and if so where is it situated on my car? Is it worthwhile running ECU diagnostic checks, if so where can I find instructions for this procedure?
Any help is very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Dogdogman
