Fuel Consumption

Afternoon chaps,
just looking for some advice based on everybodies experience ...
I've been looking at buying a scoob (either late MY00 or WRX MY01).
I can do anything from 100 miles per month pottering round town to 3000 miles of motorway driving. My current car (golf 1.8T) gives me a solid 34/35 mpg ... (only now being nicely run in at 50,000 miles)
I reckon a scoob should return between 25 - 30 mpg under the same driving conditions. Anyone able to suggest to the contrary ?
cheers
ps. fantastic BB ! ... 1st post but have been watching from afar for some time ... couldnt resist getting involved :-)

Depends how you drive really, you can go as low as single figures if your having fun or get upto 35+mpg on a lazy motorway run but in and around town, look at 17-20mpg, mixed driving will probably be like you say, 25-30mpg.
Super unleaded helps fuel consumption in these cars too, most run optimax by shell, gives better performance, smoother drive.

sounds like similar driving to me, regulary calculate mpg, worst is 14, best is 24. I cant believe how bad these cars are on fuel, (all figures based on optimax) costs me a fortune, but then again, I still wouldnt have anything else!

I got just over 30 mpg - about 2/3 long cross country run and 1/3 flying round Lincolnshire in my 96 UK turbo.
I think the aerodynamics of the STI style front bumper and high rear spoiler help a fraction with this. (I heard that the P1 gets better MPG than standard UK - similar styling to mine)
However, I didn't go much faster than 80 or 90 on the motorway - too many of those flashing boxes and white cars with the blue lights!

MY01- full scoobysport system incl. up/pipe- heavy right foot- optimax plus octane booster- approx 14mpg to 18mpg on the road. but, heh, who cares? i didn't buy it for the economy (not for mine, anyway!)

GRM,
Regularly travel 100 miles to Manchester and get no more than 20 mph regardless of type of driving, and always seem to get a Golf stuck up my tail, they are not the best choise for motorway cars. Optimax is a myth, my car, and those of others I have spoken to seem to run alot worse overall compared to SUL, slower to pick up from low revs, and rougher running, all at odds with what may have gone before, but perhaps flavour of the month due to the lower prices,(ducks for cover), which comes around again to the overall feul consumption of the Subaru. If you are using your car primarily for motorway driving then I would be looking towards one of the new deisels on offer, which are getting to be very very good.... can't believe I just said that, doctor.........

Scooting off-topic a bit here, but Optimax seems to depend on where you are. I recently changed from Optimax back to SUL (needed the 97RON for a RR) & got all of the 'they all do that' symptoms back again that I'd forgotten about (hesitation, jerky clutch when cold - no I don't know how they are related ). So it's good stuff from my 'local'

MY01 no mods. Currently 13k, owned since 7.5k.
Mpg based on at least 1/2 tank NUL.
Highest 29 mpg (long A road & M'way run with MBSR Device (Mrs Bexlee Speed Restrictor)fitted)
Lowest 19 mpg (mostly including a blast in the Lake District and MBSR removed)
Normally about 22/23 mpg
Hope this is of use.

I usually get no more than 220 miles to approx 50l of Optimax + NF, so best case scenario for me = 20mpg roughly.......
