Default engine management light advise needed

hello people,

i have a 2001 bugeye wrx

the issue i have is that the engine management light is on, i have plugged it into a diagnostics machine and the fault came back as a misfire on cylinder 2. i changed the plugs and cleared all the fault codes..... happy days

after about 20mins of driving the light came back on. i then got a new coilpack and fitted it to what i was told was cylinder 2 (standing at the front of the car the right hand side of the engine closest to me) i cleared the coded again and the same thing happened

the car seems to be running ok (idles fine, i noticed at motorway speeds the car seemed to hold back a little, not a lot but i noticed it) i dont like the idear of just leaving this and im now stuck on what to do

any help or advise would be great

i had 0304 missfire on 4 for ages, changed plugs, swapped coil over and still come on,car ran ok, so in the end i had it turned off in the map that simon aka jgm had done.i have cut that story down by loads and it really p1ssed me off !!! must have reset the ecu about 10 times and also had nps switch changed as that can throw up a missfire code, that may be your fault you know as yours is holding back on motorway.mine is my 02 sti bugeye, and since had it turned off in map its been ace! i know what its like tho not knowing if its a major fault or not.good luck.

I have the same problem with my 01 bugeye WRX cleared the codes changed the plugs, the light still on but it is running fine, what mods have you done as I have put it down to de-catting and re-mapping. I am having another upgrade next month, turbo, injectors etc and map and the tuner says the ECU is missing a reading so throws a fault even though no actual problem he told me they can solder in a resister to make the light go off?

Misfire codes can sometime be related to the NPS (Neutral Position Switch). This is a common fault and happens regular on higher power cars due to the torque in the gearbox. The parts in around £40 delivered and takes around 5mins over a pit to fit on WRX cars, the STI is trickier I believe.

Hope this thread helps
