Default Failed MOT any advice welcomed :(

Hi the Impreza failed MOT this morning much to my displeasure as i had it checked over yesterday and was told it should pass no probs It failed on both front ball joints, nearside front brake flexi and emissions being out of specified limits which is the one that most worries me. The readings were as follows.

FAST IDLE TEST
CO LIMIT 0.300% MINE WAS 0.864%
LAMBDA SHOULD BE BETWEEN 0.970-1.030 MINE WAS 1.065
ENGINE SPEED PASSED
HC PASSED

This was the first fast idle test, the second was still outside the specified limits.....CO 0.576% and LAMDA 1.057

Anyone know the extent of how bad this failing is and what might cause the problem? As the guy said he didnt have a machine to accurately diagnose the exact problem? Also it might be worth telling you the MOT was free with my KwikFit insurance policy :S as i know some of you have some horror stories to tell about KwikFit people. Any advice greatly appreciated

For emissions try putting some Redex or similar in your fuel and take it for a good run, also make sure the engine is hot before the test.

Sounds like another testing station would have passed the ball-joints and brake pipe, might be worth trying a test station that just does tests and is not looking for repair work at the same time.
