Default Where has the boxer burble gone??

Hey

The MY00 rex i got a few months back has a exhaust system straight through & a dump pipe. for some reason it doesnt carry that distinct wrx burble.

Ive had some "exhaust specialists" look at the car after reading about the need for the headers to be unequal in length to achieve that exhaust note. They looked at it and say that since the factory heat shield is still in place, it looks like standard headers are still fitted to the car. What can i do to get the beloved boxer sound??

If there are any suggestions as to what i can do to get that boxer burble back, i'd really appreciate it.

The car has the following mods:
-v34 turbo
-FMIC
-3" cannon and piping
-highflow cat
-aftermarket dump pipe

Thanks all in advance

Only thing that gives the impreza its characteristic burble is the headers as far as i know

otherwise it sounds like any other car..

perhaps they should remove the heatshield and check again

could it be the resinator or the actual muffler?

its the unequalness of the exhaust manifold that creates the noise described as burble. the rest of the exhaust could be changed to enhance it but not change it. its deffinatly the headers.

OP are you sure you defo have unequal ones on there?

If so it should burble, as the others have said.

If they're non OEM, then some aftermarket ones are 'less unequal', IYSWIM, and the closer in length each side gets to each other the less and less the burble. Fully equal ones don't burble at all, in which case it'll sound similar as most 'normal' in-line-4s?
