With help from a Scoobynet pal I’ve tracked down the first pic of the new WRX-based Forester Turbo.
Due to personal cirmcumstances I’ve had to opt for the Forester Turbo and even though the next one is only a evolution of the last one I’ll be getting a new one with all the goodies in April/May.
Here’s what info Mag X has on it:
The biggest change to the front is the horizontal grill. The basic concept of the current Forester will be maintained although the details will be modernized.
Rear view will receive greater change than the front. Triangular combination lights and tailgate situated license-plate is new. Blister type fender will remain.
Subaru will introduce new Forester in April 2002. The current model was released in February 1997, so it took Subaru five years to change the model.
The new Forester will keep the basic wild form of the current model. Blister-type fenders will remain. However, roof-rail will be modified to modern built-in type like that of the Legacy.
Turn signals will be renewed as well to cylindrical type like Legacy. Also radiator grill is now horizontal and round multi-reflector fog lights are new.
Rear end will be further modernized. License-plate, which used to be located on the bumper is now on the tailgate. Also oblong combination lights will become triangular.
Engines will be modified also and they will be based on the newly developed boxer four. Good news is the turbo engine will survive in the line up. The boxer four engine is based on the boxer six unit equipped on the current Lancaster.
The engine will be matched with six-speed manual transmission and its performance will be a surprise to those who expects normal SUV.
The current Forester made its debut in February 1997. It shares some components with the previous Impreza.

They just released a 250ps 5 sp manual STi Forester (only auto to date) - wrx brakes etc etc - which makes sense, because it is built on an Impreza floorpan after all.
The new one goes like the showers (the original S/tb was bloody quick too!!).
