Default Version 3 STi Type R

Hi, I posted a thread a few days ago and said I was going to look at one of these. Well I have been and the car is awesome... however, I have just a couple of questions.

1) The car has a Defi boost gauge, a turbo timer and a black Defi box which has a "Play" symbol and a few others on it. Something has been set so that the car cant boost over 1.3 bar(it would appear that an alarm sounds or a light appears or something). I can see no signs of any ECU alterations, and it appears that the car just has a stainless exhaust and a hard pipe kit for the induction system. Is it safe for this car to run a max boost of 1.3 bar?

Thanks for reading!

Chris.

All i have mods wise is a full ss 3" system with open neck downpipe and a hks panel filter, also ive done some work on my sandard top mount intercooler to help things flow a bit better. Ive had a look at my ecu and it looks standard to me, had a look inside but im not quite sure what im looking at in there so im guessing thats prety standard. Runs well tho with no problems atall.

Ive had mine around 8 mths now and love it too bits, ive had lots of cars, i get board fast but can honestly say this car puts a smile on my face every time i drive it and it still feels very fast, normaly i get used to a car and then it starts too feel slow but ive never had that with this one. I dont drive it all that hard too be honest as i dont want to risk it going bang, im just keeping it running sweet for 12mths then im planning a forged rebuild as even tho it feels fast still, i would love to get it up over the 400bhp mark. I dont feel i have to rev it much and it pulls so well low down the rev range, normal day to day driveing it prob doesnt get reved over 3.5k, if im haveing a play then i change before it gets in the red ( but thats not often, The misses shouts at me haha so i have to be on my own ) Ive also still got my restrictor on it so thats stops me driveing it too fast.
Here is mine.

Its worth it i think, too be on the safe side, stops alot of temptation. I will remove mine at some point but just to get my clocks reading in mph more than anything.

often defi gauges at around actual boost of 1.4bar the gauge will show 1.5bar..

so it may not actually be running as high as you think.

the problem with the 97/98 is that currently there is no easy option with regards to mapping them without an aftermarket ecu..

more than welcome to bring it to a dyno when I am there and we can do a health check under the bonnet, do a power run whilst detcans used to check it and fuelling monitored and then checked on the road after.
