just use nuts and bolts mate, you only really need springs where it attaches to the cat. to allow slight movement really.

ps. only a ten minute job to swap too.

Before you attempt to undo the bolts soak them in a releasing fluid such as WD40 overnight. I soaked mine for about an hour but one of them still sheared. Had to manufacture a new one from bolts and washers etc. The back box to centre section has a gasket between them and is just bolted together ( no springs ), my gasket was shot but exhaust came with a new one anyway so no probs, not sure if you could get away with using just jointing compound. Easy job though, should take about an hour if that!

Don't even attempt it without axle stands, you need to get right underneath to gain access to the cat to centre section bolts and also the back box to centre section.if i were you just soak the bolts now as best you can while you go and get some axle stands. Seriously dangerous without axle stands !

I have some very good Axle stands i got cheap and they are rated to 3tons. Cost less than £20 quid and your life is worth a damn site more than that.

I couldn't imagine anything scarier than being crushed by your car when working underneath it so i take all precautions.

yeah so wen u ground out or scrape ur mid section on gods finest creations which r speed bumps...ur exhuast being bolted together and with no room for flex as ur without spring loaded washers u`ll just end up shearing or even worse breakin a stud off or crackin the cast on ur turbo ....which happens.:O:O:O

As far as I knew, the springs are there to keep additional tension on the nuts in order to stop them working loose from vibration but you can survive without them. They're not there to allow the joint to move since if it did that, it'd break the seal of the joint and allow exhaust gas to escape prematurely from the system. Also if you think about it, the joint is still done up with nuts and bolts so would only be able to move if you left the nuts and bolts loose. If the manufacturer expects any part of the system to need to move then they'll usually use one of those "flexi-hose" joints.

Oh and if you hit a speed bump hard enough to rip your exhaust off or wreck your turbo then that'll learn ya for driving like a pleb through somewhere with speed bumps

... perhaps a land rover might be a better choice of vehicle if you intend driving on beaches mate?

Do it yourself rather than letting someone else. You'll learn something new as well as having the satisfaction of saving yourself a few quid that could be better spent elsewhere.
