Default Erratic Idle - Unplugging the MAF

From here: https://www.scoobynet.com/scoobynet-...atic-idle.html

I've read to unplug the MAF when Idling, can I just pull out the plug on a MY97 or do I need to actually disconnect the MAF to see if the engine still runs?

I've unplugged the MAF and it still ran, although it wanted to cut out so am I right in thinking it won't be the MAF?

Where else should I look?

If you unplug the plug from the MAF the engine should die like John Wayne at the Alamo.

If the engine continues to run it means the ECU is compensating for the knackered MAF.

You do not have to remove the MAF itself.

HTH's.

I'm 99% sure it would have died had I not reconnected it so soon. But will try tomorrow to be 100% sure.

It doesn't seem to be irratic from cold, even after an hours run today and then coming back to it an hour later it didn't do it whilst it was idling, if that removes anything from the equation from what it could be?
