Question Re: TD05 20G... or is it?

I know XS-POWER do alot of products for rock bottom prices and its usually coz they are all after market parts, but is this TD05 20G actually the genuine article as the advert title says?

It describes it as an after market jobbie in the description... with Mitsi bits etc.

Has anyone bought one of these tubbies? Feedback?

"The turbine housing is ported and polished in the turbine inlet throat and wastegate port areas"
Not on those pictures in advert.
A new TD05/20g with extra handiwork all for £370.
I wouldn't risk my engine on it.

Thats what I was thinking... the title and advert dont match - bit missleading.

The title should say in the style of or something like that coz its certainly not an actual Subaru TD05 20G is it?!

Friend of mine bought a cheap TD05-20G from ebay, it only made about 300bhp and then blew the engine to bits. Best left alone IMO

Some of them on ebay are actually good. Someone i know recently purchased one from relentless performance and it made 390hp. Pulls very good. You have to make sure you uprate the oil line's as that is the main cause of failure on these copies.

I mean look at this>>> AndyForrestPerformance

Andy forest will supply you a decent 20G with the added benefits as he does not leave these standard, i'm guessing Andy installs a 360 degree thrust to his turbos as i do with any of mine which i can/have rebuilt.

A 20G from a highly trusted source at £550 exchange.....(not sure if this is Plus Vat or not?)

I asked JGM about these turbo's and was told he wouldn't put it on his lawnmower.

You may get lucky but do you really wanna risk it? A non genuine spoiler or similar is ok, if it breaks it will just fall off but a non genuine turbo if that goes highly likely your engine will too .... much more risky.

Worth saving a few extra ££'s and going for the Andy F version

You know on AF site via that link when it says 'exchange' does that mean you can exchange any tubby?
Say for example if you have a VF34, could you exchange that for the TD05 20G or would you need to give him 'your' old TD05?

I'm 'Assuming' Andy wants a TD05 16G in exchange, but nevertheless i would speak to him direct.....As he is nothing but helpful, if he don't answer keep trying as he's a busy man and its usually because somethings being revved so highly he cannot hear the phone LOL

And the after service is 2nd to none......guaranteed to be better than any of those knock off suppliers.....Also bare in mind that if you was to re-sell a ANdy F turbo you will get good money for it in return which will allow you to re-invest back into a bigger turbo if need be...

Good Luck

Baly

I had the privilege of mapping two cars with these turbos in the last month and I have to say they a complete and utter crap when compared to the genuine units. Both cars where 2.5’s one turbo was showing sighs of Leakey seals after 100 miles.

The oil restrictor is at the turbo end, changing the oil feed pipe past the banjo wont change anything, the standard feeds are fine for all variants of turbos including the large core garrets, the only difference is this kit comes with a braided feed.

I've pm'd Andy

But after reading thru other threads, I've decided that the 20G is not suitable for the level I want to achieve and would if anything do more damage than its worth on my standard internals and 5 speed gearbox.

I'll have the fmic in a couple weeks so the next step down the line will be to get an 18G and a set of bigger injectors. 660 or 740cc is the next question?

I was at similar position nearly 2 years ago thankfully after reading up on them and getting more info from some friends and Neil at Slowboy Racing I ended up buying a 20G from Mark at Lateral Performance, I think it’s exactly the same as AndyF turbo anyhow with 10%meth it made 419.5bhp with 379 torque iirc, best time on the strip was 12 flat with 1.8 60ft crappy T1rs and it was a rapid road car very rapid coupled with a nice PPG box some gt headers and a nice list of supporting mods all put together and mapped by Neil but yes a very rapid road car. Sometimes its best to pay the extra couple of hundred to get 100% peace of mind god forbid you get a rubbish 20G that ends up destroying your engine turbo and god knows what else you end up with a nice BIF BILL for a rebuild and end up buying a new genuine turbo 20G plus the price of the dodgy one.

So just be safe than sorry atleast you will know it works and when you come to sell it you will get good money for it. peace of mind subarus aren’t the most reliable cars and by putting a dodgy turbo will only make them more prawn to breaking. Rebuilds are expensive theres a lot of dodgey companies out there just that will promise you the world and talk the talk but wont walk the walk that’s why I buy every thing for my Scooby from Scoobynet or big companies outside scoobynet that not just trading on ebay.
