Fully synthetic 5w-40 or 10w-40, most of our customers tend to go for the top end ester based oils such as these Opie Oils - Ester Synthetic

Guy,
What grade do you recommend using in my MY06 Spec C??
As it currently has Castrol Egde sport 5w-30 in it at the moment and aint entirely happy with it.
Seen that my oil temps are slighter higher then what it had in it before, but dont know what the old owner was using?
Hear good things about the silkolene pro s. but maybe i should switch to 10w-40??
cheers
Mel

Castrol Edge is good, 5w-30 is fine, the Silkolene Pro S is quality wise the next step up and is available in 5w-30 or 5w-40, either grade is fine.

Hiya oilman was advised by subaru to use shell helix plus semi synthetic for my 99 uk wagon 2000,i found that it lost its colour quite quickly and i dont use the car everyday and rag it everywhere.
I have bought some helix ultra fully synthetic 5w - 40,for hopefully better results - is this ok ,as the car only does 3 - 4 k a year.

You do understand that oil is meant to go black dont you? its removing the carbon deposits from your engine, (short journeys will increase the build up of these deposits) so when you change the oil every 6 months its cleaner in there

Shell Helix is ok (it's a modified and refined mineral oil rather than a true synthetic), but you can do a lot better for the money. I would personally go for the Silkolene Pro S 10w-50, especially due to the hard use

Oilman thanks for that, I have always used a synthetic oil for years but the handbook recommended a semi and when Subaru confirmed it , that's what I bought, dispite using a fully synthetic in my legacy gtb previously. Tony I know the oil turns black, but I was surprised at just how quick it did as I was doing trips to Oxford weekly and no short journeys, compared to the fully synthetic oils ihad used in the past.
