Help please I have a V-Storm powered by classic Subaru STI engine fitted in the back mid engined.
It is just about finished. I have test ran the car on tickover for a few hours to check for leaks etc no problem, but I didnt have a fuel cap as it has a custom fuel tank using the stock subaru fuel pump with 3 hose connections on it. From memory I have taken all these back to the fuel filter and fuel rail. there is also an after market tip/breather valve with a single connection this is piped to the carbon cannister and other pipe on the cannister goes back the fuel rail.

Today I fitted an after market aero type fuel cap went for a 5 minute run in the car, got back could hear hissig and smell fuel appears to be leaking from carbon cannister area,pipe or body.The hiss was from the fuel cap I opened it and pressure escaped from the tank,it was pressurised. Whe the pressure was released the fuel leak slowed and then stopped after about 20 seconds.

My 1st concern is have a piped the fuel pipe from the pump right,and the carbon canniter ?

Or does the Subaru have to have a vented fuel cap and maybe the one I have fitted isnt, could it be this causing it ?

I am going to run it again in the morning fire extinguisher at the ready without the fuel cap on.to see if it starts to leak again.

Any help ideas appreciated, it runs great apart from this fuel leak fault which has just appeared. Any pics of fuel pipe schematic and carbon can piping would help so I can recheck, and go back out and play, I mean test. Under 700kg with a scooby in the back you know it makes sense !

Can't see any mention of a fuel return back to the tank?

Can you draw the fuel line layout?

I'm wondering if you've connected the cannister to the fuel return line instead of the vent pipe line?

The carbon canister should not be connected to the fuel rail. Are the fuel lines like this? Fuel line from pump to fuel rail piping, from Fuel Pressure Regulator back to tank. From Carbon canistor to purge valve on inlet manifold.

Will have a look for some links to show a bit clearer. Steve

APSWRX-FRP/03, try doing a google search for the fitting instruction for the afore mentioned APS setup. There are a number of photo's that might help you.

Hi Steve,

I can post some images if someone can tell me how to do it, I ran with fuel cap off fuel didnt leak. I will check the pipe work and let you know where it all goes.

I've dug up the schematic for fuel lines on a newage car which might help:

The connectors on the fuel pump unit are:

1. Pumped fuel to engine bay.
2. Syphon transfer from one side of fuel tank to other.
3. fuel return for rail.

The canister is connected to the fuel tank filler neck.

Hi Guy thanks for the help re-checked the plumbing its all correct, vented the fuel cap did 25 miles all seems ok .

I have another question now about safe engine running temperatures. I have put this on a new post. I gave the loud pedal a big prod when I took it out on test all hell broke loose it is a lot quicker than I expected it took me by suprise,but not sure about the coolant temp. I think it may be a bit marginal.
