Modding the WR1 ECU Image
Is there anyone in Berkshire or the surrounding area who has a WR1 and wouldn't mind if I took a copy of their ECU? I'm looking to see if it has headroom for further adjustments and then applying it to my STI8 PPP if I deem it safe.
Process takes about 5min and involves shameless bribary of food and drink
Happily do some logging runs in return if anyone is interested in how their WR1 is behaving...

Agreed. There's a far bit on NASIOC, IWSTI, clubwrx and wrxhackers BUT it's mostly aimed at yanks which means the images are usually for 91-93 octane fuel. On the flip side they're very supportive with advising on safely developing you're own 'tunes' (Bless them!)

Or a mapper seeking IPR for the use of AFRs of 14.47 on fuel maps - then we'd all be in civil court... Personally I'm not worried but then I've spent much of my career advising on contract law

Prodrive would be going after all tuners for tampering with their IPR. Have you had any letters from Subaru or Prodrive threatening legal action for altering their vehicles? I respectfully presume you weren't naive enough to think that IPR enforcement would only apply to the ECU? They'd be within their rights to come after you for modifying any proprietary components e.g. the induction, heads... Oh and ECUTEK would've been prosecuted long ago by Trading Standards for altering other manufacturer's IPR.
i.e. it's a non issue. Just out of interest what legal precedent do you have for thinking otherwise?
Incidentally, neither Subaru nor Prodrive have any IPR on the ECU, it's the intellectual property of Denso but I'll wager you've not been threatened by them either.
If on the other hand, I made my own ECU and copied proprietary parts of the Denso design AND sold it on, then I really would be in deep sh**
