Cam change?
Guys,
I've been considering my options for a bit of a power increase.
Current spec on my Type R is what you would consider "stage 1" -
Blitz Nur Spec
Scoobysport decat downpipe
Green panel filter
Walbro fuel pump
V9 crossdrilled & nitrided steel crank
ACL Race bearings
Eagle Forged rods
Cosworth sump baffle kit
Competition oil pump
Andy Forrest Ecutek remap on 97 ron fuel-325bhp & 303ftlbs
My dilema is that to go any further is going to cost an absolute bomb i.e FMIC, 18g turbo, 550 injectors & a remap to suit. Roughly about 2K!! More than I really want spend to be honest.
Another route I'm considering is a cam change and map tweak to suit.
These are the cams I'm considering -
http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk/
They're not badly priced. Would it be worth it for a modest bit of mid range torque and bhp?
I know Tony will hopfully be along soon to keep us right
Cheers!

Yeah thats about as much as you want to do for now, you have pretty much got the weak spots sorted, though depends how far you want to go, getting uprated pistons may be an option open for you?
Tony
PS, wouldnt change the cams tbh

Yeah I've been in contact with Harvey Smith about getting the headers & up pipe ported before the mapping session. Hopefully it's worth it! Just thought the cams would have been an idea as well.
Out of curiosity what spec you running yourself Tony?

Oh uprated MD turbo, FMIC, 550cc injectors, GT Spec headers and a few other bits when I find the previous owners address and try to get some more info out of him, think the internals are still standard, saving up for the twin scroll crank, uprated rods, pistons, bearings and a new oil pump, but thats a few months down the line
That Cathy lass in Bristol does most of those parts (twin scroll cranks, ACL bearings etc) on ebay quite cheap and she has good feedback

Yeah Cath from Advanced Auto Performance. That's where I got my oil pump, crank, bearings, rods etc. Well priced too.
Were you able to run the standard air box with the front mount? You must be over the 350 bhp mark with that lot!

Nah, she has a HKS mushroom filter on just now, but its bolted (literally) to a very rigid mount, thats coming off and im reverting back to a standard airbox setup, not really after super power (320ish bhp), just super reliability (though I do have uprated springs and AP's )
Trying to fix all the bits subaru didnt excell in with the phase 2 engines but did later on with the twin scroll ones
Trouble is, when you start to mod you like to change bits, most of the bits to be exact, the car is a little hard riding for my liking but I can live with it, its the steering I want to do soon, needs a quick rack
