Re-map advise on MY98
I am looking for some help/advice from people who might of done this before.
I have a UK MY98 with a scooby sport exhaust
Bailey VTA dump valve
K & N filter
I was hoping for a bit more power but was also wondering is it posible to put a power comander on with 2 different maps:
1 for just driving around and a 2nd full HP verson.
Also any good/bad experiances they have had especially with tunners in north west/west london as this is where i am and would like to keep it local in case of an potential issue after the event.
Also is it a good idea to change to something like an TMIC from a V3 STI as i believe thats the one colsest to my intercooler mounting points? Obviously this would need to be done before the remap but is there any gain to be done by doing this or is it just unecessary cost.
Thanks in advance

There is no real point of 2 maps on a UK turbo tbh, just the one pushing about 270bhp will cover your every need but you will need that aftermarket ecu for it.

Apexi?
You can do what you wish, yes - but its not 2 maps to be exact, but one map and the choice of 4 different boost settings, easy to change between them via the commander.

Sedate is just less of a throttle push away!
No point changing to the STi V3 intercooler, its all but identical, however the STi intake pipe from turbo is a worthwhile upgrade, as is swapping (with new BOV parts) to the V4 which is a more effective intercooler.

The problem with the right foot is that some times you want to be going say 90 ish on a steady run but you don't need the turbo wide open. I don't know about anybody else but on my car 70 and 90 have a huge diff in mpg.

your not at full throttle at 90 etc..
However the standard ecu will turn the lambda sensor off at a set rpm and it will then run slightly richer and also the standard ecu will run richer than you need to due to the generic nature of the standard map etc.
With fuelling, ignition and boost setup correct across the board you'll have a quicker, crisper, more responsive, more powerful car and will use less fuel on a normal drive out.

lowering the boost will make no difference to this.

the best option always used to be the Apexi PowerFc but it is no longer available at a decent price and therefore better going with a SimTek.. you can have two maps on it one high boost and one low for example. or if not in a rush look out for a secondhand powerfc

I have seen the Apexi on fley bay for anything from£250 to £800 but can't be sure with sellers on fley bay.
Is the Apexi that much better than the SimTek?
How much is a Sim Tek?
Thanks

no the simtek is better but the apexi works well on relatively standard car etc..
simtek is £895+VAT fitted and mapped.
Apexi is £250+VAT to fit and map.. and not worth it unless you van get one for less than £450 imho.. go with the simtek

Right well it seems the simtek is the way to go. What power do you think i will get also any extras i should be thinking about first.
As i'm just in the process of upgrading the brakes first?

i would reccomend simon (jgm) for a simtek, he will help you out with any problems you come across when mapping as well very helpful chap.
if it was me i would consider changing the turbo vf34/35 and the injectors then you can break the 300bhp mark with only 1 mapping cost, which will be great for the 2 maps of the simtek and give you exactly what you want a motorway cruiser and a more powerfull car for the weekend.
