yeah it sure doesnt look to clever but just forked out for a new clutch & gearbox so it will have to stay like it for the meanwhile, is the converter the sliver block & do both upper & lower cables screw into that then? how are they removed? the speedo seems to work alright flutters slightly but not seeing no cel, wondered if the connection wasnt tight as it just dropped out it could cause it to go in & out of limp mode giving the hesitation, cheers mark

Could possibly cause a bit of flutter on the speedo but think if you where going into limp you would get a CEL.

Speedo
My 1993 WRXRA has done the same. I am going to change the bottom part near the gearbox. As I quick fix to keep me off Limp mode. I put the male end, (which clips into the gear box end ) in my electric drill. Have the car running and then start the drill. If this end of the cable is not broken, it will take it off limp mode for a while, some times days. It puts the check engine light out. You should also see the speedo needle move slightly, this will show you which part of the cable is ok or broken.
